Posting and communication
Student associations is responsible for its own external communications with association members. Many choose to run an Instagram account for their association, and most associationss also have a Hitract account which serves as a members’ portal and as a platform for event communications and ticket sales.
SöderS helps föreningarna to raise their profile amongst the student union’s members. For example, on SöderS’s Instagram, on the website, in newsletters, etc. The main communication channels for the student union’s support for förenings are Instagram and The calendar.
Communication that delivers results
As a student association, it is always beneficial to reach your intended target audience: students at Södertörn University who share the same interests or are studying the same subject. You should therefore bear these points in mind when communicating your association and its operation externally.
Work out the target audience
Who might be interested in joining your association group? Do they belong to a particular course, or do they share the same interests as your association group? Where in the school might they be found?
Post
There are plenty of noticeboard spaces at Södertörn University. SöderS has one (1) noticeboard reserved exclusively for SöderS associations and operations, which is the one you’ll find in the corridor between Arom and the F-Building on Level 5. In addition to this, there are several A3 display compartments indoors at the university marked ”SöderS”, where all associations and operations members are permitted to put up posters.
There are rules to abide by regarding poster display. Scroll down a bit further to read them.
Market heavily
To successfully recruit members and encourage them to get involved and take an interest in förening’s activities, a great deal of effort must be put into marketing. Two key factors for success are, as mentioned in the previous points, knowing the target audience and putting up posters on the university’s premises. However, a great deal also depends on digital marketing.
To start with, you could make sure to follow both SöderS and all the other associations and operations groups on Instagram. Have a look around to see if there are any associations groups similar to yours at other universities. That way, you can find inspiration and collaborate.
Publish (or republish) frequently, and tag accounts that you want to engage with your content. In that way you will get a lot of reach and reach new students. This is especially important when you are newly started and want to recruit members.
Another trick is also to talk about your association with study mates. If they are already studying the same subject as you, there is a good chance they share some of your interests!
Rules for posting notices
Putting up posters is an effective way to promote your operation, whether it’s for an upcoming event or a recruitment drive, to name a couple of common examples. The poster sizes permitted at Södertörn University are mainly A4 and A3.
In the SöderS Office, there is a desktop computer in the printing area. This is so that associations students can easily print their own work. To ensure fairness, we have therefore limited the number of printouts per association student. The password for the desktop computer is: print (2025-09-10)
For A3 prints: 20 pieces in total
For A4 prints: 20 pieces in total
With a limited number of prints, we can also put up posters more smartly. Spread your posters evenly across the school's various hallway floors!
Display only in SöderS' pigeonhole
This does not apply to unmarked pigeonholes, which are for “everyone”. If the pigeonhole says “SH”, “Art Space” or “Södertörns högskola”, we must not put posters in them.
Do not use tape
It is forbidden to use tape on walls, doors and glass when putting up posters. The same applies to Blu Tack. Use pigeonholes or notice boards!
Date the information
When is the event, or for how long are you recruiting a project group? Please be clear about how long the information is relevant. This makes things easier for both the students and the student union.
Set up and take down
We all help to keep the posters up to date. Therefore, we help to take down posters whose dates have passed.
Do not cover other information
Everyone has an equal right to be seen. Therefore, we do not put up posters over posters and information that are still current.
Do not post in the toilets
According to SöderS’s verksamhet plan, we are to work towards providing channels for crisis support for the university’s students. We have therefore introduced a rule that only SöderS is permitted to put up posters in the university’s toilets. The posters we find in the toilets are so-called ”standard posters” and contain information on how to access crisis support.
This does not apply the library toilets – you're allowed to put up posters there!
Poster footers
Please feel free to use our shared footer for posters so that we create a clear consistency for our students.
