Today is Secretary-General Malin Helldorff’s last day at SöderS. Malin joined SöderS in 2021, and has since made a significant impact on the organisation through her leadership and dedication to students' interests.
– After five years I feel that it is time for someone else to take over from me and for me to do something else, says Malin.
Below is a summary of some of Malin's time at SöderS, in both our and her own words.
When Malin started her position at SöderS, she had just studied the Human Resources programme at Södertörn University. It was January 2021, and the pandemic's impact on the university and the student union was noticeable. It was a time when meetings with the university's students were virtually non-existent.
When the university doors reopened in the spring of 2022, new challenges arose in reawakening student engagement. In this, Malin has been a key person, having made an immense number of students both get involved and feel that their participation in the student union genuinely matters.
”Can you describe your time at SöderS?”
– It's not that easy, because a great deal has happened during these years. Many dedicated students whom I've had the honour of getting to know, and fantastic colleagues who constantly develop SöderS' work for a better, safer and more legally secure student life.
”What has been the most fun during these years?”
That is not so easy to answer either. But to say something, it has been tremendously fun to be involved in organising Regulatordagen, which was a conference that put the spotlight on the student city that is currently emerging in Flemingsberg.
Regulator Day is one of SöderS' major milestones. Thanks to the work leading up to Regulator Day, SöderS, together with other local actors, has helped to put the student city of Flemingsberg on the map.
”What are you most proud of?”
– I am very pleased with the work that we have done in getting the work with local student safety representatives up and running, but you cannot just mention one thing either. There is so much fun and important stuff that we have done and are constantly doing, so it is really impossible to single out just one thing.
”What advice do you have for the person who comes after you?”
– Don't forget that the target audience is right next door. If you get stuck on an idea, you just need to walk ten metres out and ask the students who happen to be sitting there at the time, and you'll get wise answers!
