Goodbye, Oskar!

Today is the last day for Oskar M Wiik at SöderS. Since the turn of the year, Oskar has worked as a student and doctoral ombudsman alongside Isabella Blomstrand, but Oskar's time at SöderS goes back further than that.

Oskar's journey at SöderS began as early as 2015 as vice-chair and then chair of SöderS, a role that he ended up keeping for a total of three academic years. In 2019, Oskar was elected to SSCO (Stockholm University Student Unions' Central Organisation), and following that to SFS (The Swedish National Union of Students). In 2022, Oskar returned to SöderS, but in the role of communications officer. During that time, he managed to become a key figure in shaping the identity of SöderS – both in social communication and visual expressions, but also in how routines are conducted and attitudes are shaped.

– Oskar has made a major impact on SöderS. Both he and Matilda Good, who left around the same time, will be missed. They have both left behind structures and working methods that will benefit the organisation, says Malin Helldorff, Secretary General of SöderS.

Although Oskar is now leaving the student movement, he will continue to work with students and higher education. Geographically, too, the step is not all that far. From the autumn term 2025, Oskar will be working as a communications officer and study administrator at SMI, the University College of Music Education in Stockholm, which is also located on Campus Flemingsberg.

– After ten years in the service of the student movement, I am now going to take my belongings and move across the street. In August, I will take up my new position as communications officer for the Stockholm University College of Music Education, Oskar explains.

Oskar tells us more about his time at SöderS in a few quick questions:

What does SöderS mean to you?
To me, SöderS is warmth, struggle and knowledge. I am one hundred percent sure that SöderS itself has made me a better person. Thank you for everything I have learned from you.

Which year was the best, and why?
How about the 2023/24 financial year? We had a thoroughly enjoyable Guldgripen ceremony, organised a super fun stand-up event series, published several reports on the student work environment and study conditions, kicked off a career day and got the municipality to genuinely engage with the students!

What will you miss the most?
The people; my utterly fantastic colleagues and all the volunteers whom I have had the privilege to follow, support and be inspired by. And my office. I have an amazingly nice office.

Is there anything in particular that you are taking with you from your time at SöderS?
Since I can neither take the office with me nor take many physical things as that would count as ”sTeAlInG fRoM tHe WoRkPlAcE”, I must say that I am particularly bringing with me my experience of balancing a small organisation with a large number of people, and between being a young and adaptable organisation with having my feet in its history and my eyes forward towards its possibilities.

Oskar was thanked for his service with his closest colleagues, both new and old, in SöderS Association Wing. We remember Oskar for his incredible drive and commitment to the students at Södertörn, Stockholm and Sweden!
