On Tuesday 5 March 2025, dedicated student representatives gathered in the Association Wing for the operational year's third Advocacy Forum. The focus was an in-depth workshop on course and programme syllabuses, a key tool for ensuring the quality of the students' education.
What are course and programme syllabuses?
Course and education syllabuses are documents that describe the content, objectives and requirements for a specific course or an entire educational programme. They act as an agreement between the higher education institution and the student, which is why it is important that students have the opportunity to influence their design.
Workshop with Erik Granrot
Today's guest lecturer, Erik Granrot, led an interactive workshop where participants got to review and analyse course and programme syllabuses. The discussions revolved around issues such as:
How do we ensure that the course objectives are clear and relevant?
How can we help ensure that the examinations are fair and efficient?
How can we work to include the students' perspectives in the plans?
The students' voices
The participants were very engaged in the discussions and shared their experiences and perspectives. ”It was truly educational to gain a deeper understanding of how syllabuses are structured and how we can use them to influence our education,” said one of the participants. Another student commented: ”I especially appreciated the discussion on how we can work to make the examinations fairer and more accessible for all students.”
Several students also highlighted that it was very rewarding to exchange experiences with other student representatives.
Looking forward
The #3 Advocacy Forum provided student representatives with valuable tools for carrying out advocacy work. We hope that the knowledge and insights shared during the day will help to strengthen student influence at Södertörn University.
We urge all student representatives to take part in the upcoming Influence Forum. It is a unique opportunity to learn more about how to influence your education and to meet other committed students.
The next Impact Forum takes place on 16 April at 15:00 – see you then!
