In January 2025, SöderS visited Huddinge Municipality to follow up on and discuss the proposed measures outlined in the report Next Stop: Studentstaden Flemingsberg. The report, which was presented almost a year ago, summarised the urban development conference Regulatordagen 2024 and mapped out Flemingsberg's development and future potential from a student perspective.
Among the measures discussed at the meeting are visions for a more vibrant campus, an accessible housing market for students, and strengthened cooperation with student unions to promote the urban development of Flemingsberg and create a more sustainable and attractive student city.
Oskar M Wiik, report writer and student and doctoral student ombudsman at SöderS, shares his thoughts and feelings after the meeting:
– What became very clear on site is that the students' needs are on the table. We see that students at Campus Flemingsberg do not live close to their studies, which affects their conditions for taking part in both education and student life outside of their studies. In this very respect, SöderS' role is huge; to monitor and enable, improve situations for students and also ensure that students are heard in these processes.
– At the same time, I feel great pride in the students' impact on these issues, and I sense a clear willingness and understanding from Huddinge Municipality in this collaboration. We hear each other and we want to continue to follow the development together. I am very optimistic.
Attendees at the meeting included Sara Heelge Vikmång, Chair of the Executive Board of Huddinge Municipality, municipal commissioner Rasmus Lenefors and municipal commissioner Emil Högberg, amongst others. Södertörn University Students' Union was represented by board chair Julia Runnelid, student and doctoral ombudsperson Oskar M Wiik, general secretary Malin Helldorff and communications officer Eva Gauffin. Since September 2024, Matilda has been acting as operations developer for Södertörn University Students' Union, with a specific responsibility for work relating to society support and member care. Matilda marked the end of her time at SöderS with a picnic alongside her closest colleagues on site, and we remember her drive and commitment to student life (…and her super-green office).
