About the Golden Griffin
The Student Union's pedagogical award
to Södertörn University's best teachers
Students invest years of their lives in their future and it is the main task of colleges and universities to ensure that this investment pays off. The quality of education must be the best possible so that students have the best possible conditions for moving on in working life after graduation. To make this possible, high demands are placed on teachers.
Södertörn University places great emphasis on students meeting research teachers, and teachers with extensive practical experience from working life. However, it is one thing to have theoretical and practical knowledge, and another to be able to communicate and create space for students to use this knowledge. It is not just about one party teaching the other, but about creating meetings in the learning environment where the students themselves can be active actors in their learning. It is about encouraging students to dare to ask questions about things they do not understand, to dare to test thoughts and reasoning, and for the teacher to guide, explain the incomprehensible so that it becomes understandable, without giving too many pointers.
There are many teachers who take pedagogy very seriously. Then there are teachers who make a special mark on their students' studies. Teachers who are particularly passionate about their interaction with students. Teachers who not only manage to teach, but also meet students right where they are. Teachers who give students the space to develop not only their subject knowledge, but also themselves. Teachers who see their own development in the encounter with students as equally important to reach new knowledge and develop their pedagogy and themselves. Teachers who are remembered by students as role models long after their studies have ended.
SöderS recognizes these enthusiasts by awarding the Guldgripen - Södertörn University's most pedagogical teacher, according to the students themselves.
Nomination procedure
Students at Södertörn University nominate candidates for the Guldgripen. The nomination must include the candidate's name, the teacher's subject area and a well-formulated motivation. Several students can sign a motivation. Nominations can be submitted throughout the year, until the closing date decided by the SöderS Board. Proposals received after the deadline will be considered for the following year.
