FAQ on union membership
Am I a member?
The Mecenat card serves as proof of membership of SöderS. Students who are not members of the union only have a regular white Mecenat card. Students who are members have our special design (which varies depending on the semester) and our logo on the card.

What are the benefits of membership?
We have many member benefits for you who study at Södertörn University and are a union member. We have gathered all these here ->
The most popular and most appreciated member benefits are access to SSSB's student housing queue, half price-ish on the entire menu in SöderS Pub, the opportunity to get paid for being a student representative (application is needed), and the opportunity to get merit points for studying abroad through union or association involvement.
Why does the SSSB say I am not a member?
It always takes a couple of days for the union membership to be synchronized with SSSB. If it has taken more than 7 days, you are more than welcome to contact us via info@soders.nu.
If it takes a very long time, it may be due to problems between your information as a union member and your information in Ladok - it may be, for example, that you have different social security numbers or e-mail addresses registered, or that you are not in Ladok's system. We are more than happy to help you investigate the matter!
A person should be able to have queue days without union membership for 90 days before the queue points are frozen.
I want to become a member, but I don't have a social security number. What should I do?
If you are an incoming student, you first need to obtain a T-number (temporary personal identity number) via the Swedish Tax Agency. With a T-number you can become a member of the student union, and a T-number is usually valid for one year from the date of issue. If you are studying in Sweden for more than one year, you may therefore need to apply for a regular personal identity number. What if I have updated my social security number?
Om du har uppdaterat personnummer, t.ex. att du går från ett T-nummer (temporärt personnummer) till ett vanligt personnummer, behöver du mejla in ett personbevis från Skatteverket med det nya personnumret till Ladok (ladok@sh.se). Därifrån kommer dina nya uppgifter att uppdateras i vårat medlemssystem.

I need student accommodation, how do I go about it?
There are several ways to apply for student housing. As a student union, we have a collaboration with, among others, the local player Huge (student housing in Flemingsberg/Huddinge). On their website you can register and register interest in vacant housing, but you can also find their ads through, among others, Bostadsförmedlingen.
As a union member, you can also apply for housing through SSSB (Stockholm Student Housing) through queue points, and you can collect queue points for 90 days until SSSB requires you to synchronize a union membership.
FAQ about the Mecenat card
How do I get the Mecenat card?
The general student Mecenat card is sent out automatically to the students of the university after the start of the semester. If you wish to receive your Mecenat card earlier, you can order one via Mecenat.
SöderS Mecenat card
To receive a SöderS Mecenat card, you must be a member of the student union and be registered for studies at Södertörn University. You will automatically be sent the card as soon as you are a registered union member and registered for studies via Ladok in our member portal.
When will I receive my Mecenat card?
The Mecenat card is sent out to all students at Södertörn University about two weeks after the start of the semester.
If you have not received your SöderS-Mecenat card, it may be that your information is missing in our system. To correct this, you can send your registration certificate to info@soders.nu.
Can I get a physical Mecenat card?
As of 2024, Mecenat will not issue physical cards.
How do I get a travel discount for SL on my Mecenat card?
If you are registered for at least 22.5 credits (75%) in the same semester, you are entitled to buy an SL card with a student discount. This also applies to getting a travel discount with the SöderS card.
When traveling on a discounted ticket with SL, you need to be able to show your Mecenat card or other valid student ID. Read more about age and student discounts on SL here.
I am a doctoral student, how do I get a travel discount?
As a doctoral student at Södertörn University, you are entitled to a Mecenat card with an active SL logo. To activate this, you need to contact us at info@soders.nu with proof that you are a doctoral student.
When can I use the SöderS Mecenat card?
With the SöderS card you can get a travel discount with SL (if the card has an active SL logo), you can get a student discount in SöderS Pub and in Allé Elva/Prego, and you can show proof of union membership during events and other activities that require this or give a union member discount.
