Budget
The Annual General Meeting decides with a budget how the association will spend its money and then it is up to the Board to implement these decisions.
The treasurer has overall responsibility for ensuring that the board manages the association's finances and spends the association's money on things that are in the members' interest.
The auditors, who are elected at the annual general meeting, check that the board is carrying out its duties in accordance with the decisions and interests of the members.
Financial accounting
At the annual general meeting, you must report to the members on how the association has used its financial resources. This may be called a financial statement, annual report or annual accounts.
The financial statements, together with the annual activity report for the year, shall form the basis for the decision on discharge of the outgoing Board.
Declaration
All businesses registered with the Swedish Tax Agency must submit a tax return once a year. Read more on the Swedish Tax Agency's website.
As a general rule, all student associations are non-profit organizations and special rules apply. In particular, several types of income that the association may receive are tax-free.
Therefore, it is possible to apply to be exempted from "submitting special information". If the Swedish Tax Agency approves the application, no declaration will be required for five years.
