In January 2025, SöderS visited Huddinge Municipality to follow up and discuss the proposed measures in the report Nästa Station: Studentstaden Flemingsberg. The report, which was presented almost a year ago, summarized the urban development conference Regulatordagen 2024 and mapped Flemingsberg's development and future potential from a student perspective.
Among the measures discussed at the meeting were visions of a more vibrant campus, an accessible housing market for students, and a stronger collaboration with student unions to promote Flemingsberg's urban development and create a more sustainable and attractive student city.
Oskar M Wiik, report author and student and doctoral student representative at SöderS, gives his thoughts and feelings after the meeting:
- What became very clear on site is that the students' needs are on the table. We see that students at Campus Flemingsberg are not geographically close to their studies, which affects the students' ability to take part in both education and student life outside their studies. SöderS has a huge role in this; to monitor and enable, improve situations for students and also ensure that students are heard in these processes.
- At the same time, I feel great pride in the students' impact on these issues, and I feel a clear will and understanding from Huddinge municipality in this collaboration. We hear each other and we want to continue to follow developments together. I am very optimistic.
The meeting was attended by, among others, Huddinge Municipality's Chairman of the Board Sara Heelge Vikmång, Municipal Councillor Rasmus Lenefors and Municipal Councillor Emil Högberg. Södertörn University's Student Union was represented by the Chairman of the Board Julia Runnelid, Student and Doctoral Student Representative Oskar M Wiik, Secretary General Malin Helldorff and Communications Officer Eva Gauffin.Since September 2024, Matilda has been deputized as a business developer for Södertörn University's Student Union, and has had a special responsibility for the association-supporting and member-care work. Matilda ended her time at SöderS with a picnic with her closest colleagues, and we remember her drive and commitment to student life (...and her super green office).
