As a student union, our main mission is to monitor and participate in the development of education and the conditions for studying at the university. We do this, among other things, through our student law activities.
Students at all levels of education can turn to the Student Union's representative if they need legal support from the university. The student law activities provide us with concrete data on areas of development and improvement for an even better education at Södertörn University. For the sake of both education and the individual student, it is important that SöderS constantly evaluates its dissemination of information about student law activities so that students who need it receive the support they deserve and need.
In the Student LawReport2024, we report the student law cases that SöderS student and doctoral student representatives received and handled during the financial year 2023/24. In total, there are 116 cases, which is an increase of 21% compared to the previous year.
SöderS recommendations
In the 2023/24 academic year, the most recurrent areas for which students sought guidance were the following:
- Examination (35 cases)
- Physical and psychosocial study and work environment (25 cases)
- Discrimination, harassment and other victimization (15 cases)
Based on these, SöderS makes the following recommendations to Södertörn University:
that the university strengthens its work to improve students' work environment through active measures to promote equal rights and prevent discrimination and victimization.
that programmes and subjects work to clarify course requirements and expectations of student performance at the start of the course.
that the university works to ensure that the university's obligations regarding examinations and grade reporting are complied with and provides teachers with the conditions in their work environment to meet this.
