SöderS will continue as a student union at Södertörn University, the university board decided on February 20, 2025.

Student union status, or kårstatus as it is sometimes called, can be granted to student organizations at Sweden's colleges and universities and is given for a three-year period. The new decision means that SöderS will continue as a student union until 2028. At the university's staff meeting in February, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Nils Ekedahl informed the staff of the news:

"We are pleased and look forward to continued cooperation with SöderS, which of course plays a very important role in the university; not only for the students but for the university as a whole to get help in the work for a functioning student influence and a good student environment with many student activities."

The tasks of the student unions are primarily regulated by the Higher Education Act, the Higher Education Ordinance and the Student Union Ordinance and state that the main task is to monitor and participate in the development of education. This means that SöderS is responsible for student influence at Södertörn University and works to ensure that students are represented and involved in issues relating to education and conditions for study.

In connection with the renewal of the student union status, a new operational agreement between SöderS and the university will be drawn up. For the upcoming negotiations, the parties' commitments in study social issues are important for SöderS. 

"Much of the operational support and tools we can give our student associations to create an inclusive and vibrant campus are based on the agreement with the university. It is therefore important that we have a good understanding and insight into the needs of the associations and I hope that we can take steps forward in this for an even more vibrant student and association life"
